Mistake review
How to Review Cambridge AS Economics MCQ Mistakes
Turn a wrong or guessed Economics MCQ answer into a precise revision action using a repeatable mistake-review routine.
Review wrong answers and uncertain right answers
A wrong answer is an obvious review target. A correct answer marked as a guess can be just as useful: the score looks fine, but the reasoning may not be available next time. Treat both as evidence that deserves a short inspection.
Revlo shows the correct answer immediately and lets you mark guesses. That makes the review prompt visible, but the important work is still yours: reconstruct the decision, locate the error, and choose one repair you can later test.
Use a four-question mistake routine
1. What did the question require?
Restate the task without copying the whole question. Identify the economic topic, the direction or comparison being tested, and any qualifier that changes the answer. This helps separate a content gap from a reading error.
2. Why did my answer seem plausible?
Reconstruct the reasoning you actually used. Do not replace it immediately with the correct explanation. The useful clue is the rule, association, calculation, or wording cue that led you to the distractor. If you cannot remember, mark the attempt as uncertain rather than inventing a story.
3. What makes the correct answer better?
State the shortest complete reason that distinguishes the correct option. Where possible, explain why your selected option fails under the exact condition in the question. Check the official mark scheme and current course material; they take precedence over Revlo or any third-party explanation.
4. What will I do differently next time?
Choose an observable action. Examples include defining two close concepts side by side, redrawing a relationship, writing the steps of a calculation, circling qualifiers before answering, or attempting another question from the same topic after a delay.
Classify the error before choosing the repair
- Concept: return to the definition, assumptions, or relationship, then explain it without the options visible.
- Application: identify the facts in the scenario that activate the concept and trace the chain one step at a time.
- Wording: locate the word you missed and adopt a repeatable reading check for qualifiers, direction, and time frame.
- Diagram or calculation: write the method in stages, check labels and signs, and practise a nearby example.
- Guess: retrieve the reason without options, then answer another question that uses the same distinction.
Avoid writing “careless” as the entire diagnosis. It describes how the result felt, not the mechanism you can change. Name the missed word, skipped step, confused concept, or unsupported assumption.
Use an AI assistant carefully
Revlo can copy the question context, your submitted answer, and the correct answer to your clipboard. If you paste that into ChatGPT, Claude, or another assistant, ask a narrow question such as: “Which distinction makes my option fail?” or “Show the reasoning steps, then give me a new example without copying this question.”
AI systems can produce confident mistakes. Verify definitions, syllabus scope, and answer logic against official Cambridge materials, your course resources, or a teacher. Do not ask an assistant to reproduce restricted papers, and do not treat a generated explanation as an official mark scheme.
Keep the log small enough to use
A mistake log should reduce future work, not become a second textbook. Record repeated or revealing errors, not a paragraph about every missed mark. If several questions expose the same gap, combine them under one repair action.
A compact review table needs only:
- date and topic;
- error type;
- the missing distinction or step;
- the repair action;
- a recheck date or status.
Recheck without the answer in view
Immediate correction can create familiarity: the answer looks obvious because you just saw it. Recheck after time has passed. Use Revlo’s previous-mistakes filter to assemble a later set, or choose another question from the same topic. The repair is stronger when you can retrieve and apply the distinction without the old explanation beside you.
When the answer is correct for a reason you can explain, mark the gap as rechecked. If the same error returns, change the repair method rather than copying a longer note.
Turn the pattern into the next plan
One mistake chooses one repair. A pattern of mistakes chooses the next session. Use Revlo’s topic results and mistake filters to see whether the gap is isolated or recurring, then decide between course-material review, a focused topic set, mixed retrieval, or timed practice.
Put this routine inside the broader past-paper revision loop. To keep topic coverage balanced, use the guide to revising microeconomics and macroeconomics together.
